Product Description
Sourced from the deep valleys of the Wuyi Mountains, this Da Hong Pao is crafted from rigorously selected Zheng Yan spring tea leaves. Following traditional slow charcoal roasting, it develops the signature "rock bone and floral fragrance" – a hallmark of authentic Wuyi rock teas. When brewed, the liquor reveals a brilliant orange-yellow clarity, releasing a complex, lingering aroma. The taste is full-bodied and mellow, living up to the renowned praise: "three layers of fragrance in the cup, three transformations on the palate."

Tasting Notes

Aspect Description
Dry Leaves Tightly curled, well-twisted, and evenly shaped. Deep brownish-green in colour with a lustrous, oily sheen – a testament to the full charcoal roast.
Aroma Intensely floral and fruity, yet deep and layered. The charcoal roasting adds a warm, toasty undertone without overpowering the natural fragrance.
Liquor Bright, clear, and brilliantly orange-yellow – visually striking and inviting.
Palate Smooth and mellow on entry, with a distinct "rock rhyme" (yan yun) that defines fine Wuyi oolongs. The body is thick and textured, delivering a clean, sweet aftertaste that lingers and evolves. Each sip offers a harmonious balance of floral sweetness, roasted depth, and a refreshing mineral note.
Infused Leaves Thick, plump, and resilient. They unfurl to a reddish-brown colour with a soft, glossy sheen. The leaves remain vibrant and aromatic even after multiple infusions, proving excellent endurance.

Brewing Tips (for optimal enjoyment)
Use boiling water (100°C / 212°F) to fully awaken the charcoal-roasted character. A gaiwan or Yixing clay pot is recommended. For a standard gongfu session:

  • Tea: 8g

  • Water: 120–150ml

  • Rinse leaves briefly with boiling water, then discard.

  • Steep for 3–5 seconds for the first infusion, adding 3–5 seconds for each subsequent brew.

  • This tea holds up well for up to 10 infusions, with each steep revealing a new facet of its complexity.
